🔮 Introduction: Can We Really See the Future?
Time isn’t linear—not in the way our clocks and calendars suggest. You might have had dreams that later came true, or gut feelings that warned or guided you. These aren’t random—they are glimpses through the thin veil that hides time’s deeper nature. In this article, we explore how spiritual traditions approach seeing the future, how divination works, and how your perception of time might shift as you evolve.
Understand the Laws of Divination
Seeing the future is usually associated with mysticism, fortune-telling, or psychic abilities. But even scientists and futurists seek to predict future events using data.
Divination, however, is different. It’s the art of accessing information that is hidden or beyond normal perception. From the outside, it might appear mystical or strange, but it’s simply a method of communicating with the intelligent energy of the universe. This article focuses not just on technique but on understanding time itself.
Only souls that are mature enough (4th, 5th dimension and beyond) can truly comprehend and work with time intuitively.
Core Terminology
Precognition: Direct awareness of future events, often through dreams, usually within 24–48 hours.
Premonition: A vague, intuitive feeling about something that might happen. Trusting your hunches is essential.
Divination: Gaining insight into future or unseen aspects of reality through connection with the higher self, God, or spiritual guides.
Prophecy: A fixed and unchangeable vision of the future—rare, and often collective or historical in nature.
Note: Even if a prophecy appears fixed, how we respond to it may shift how it unfolds in our timeline.
Oracles vs. Seers: Oracles speak the direct will of the divine; seers interpret signs through their own perception.
How does Divination work?
Divination works because all things are connected energetically, and all matter has an innate intelligence, according to The Divine Oneness. When handling some rocks on a table, you are connected to a higher power because the higher power is connected to the rocks – in a sense, the rocks are alive. If you accept that everything is alive, it could be argued a higher purpose can speak to you through anything – if you can just work out a method of interpreting what an object may say to you. Once you accept that the world is an intelligent place, you can even accept that your car breaking down while you’re out for a drive may be a message that you should slow down and relax in your more general life.
To believe in divination can be a big step. Many need to practice an art such as tarot reading for many years before they really begin to accept that it is not just a coincidence that the cards keep falling in the right places.
In preparation for divining, many people will quieten their minds and really try to connect with a divine part of themselves. This part we could call God, or Great Spirit, or simply a greater power. In divination, you are essentially divining for the truth.
The 7 Laws of Divination
1. Ask the right question
Before embarking on this endeavor, you should carefully consider why you would like to attempt this art. It is in our nature to want to understand and know the future. We may be in a crisis and want to know when we will make it through the other side – so we may ask questions like, “Will I ever find a soul mate” or “Will I be rich?”
In asking these questions, we are depreciating ourselves. We create our own reality, and seeking answers to these questions means we are not taking power into our own hands and manifesting our desires, hopes, and dreams.
Once you begin to investigate this area, it can become tempting to use these tools to help direct your life all the time. If you continually use your pendulum to find out if you should go to the pictures with your friend or whether you should bunk the day off work, then maybe you are forgetting to value your own decision-making ability. Divination is a tool to help you understand your life better and to give you support. Try not to get into the trap of referring to your cards or stones for advice on every little thing that happens in your life. Use divination to supplement your feelings, and when you have a strong feeling to do something, trust yourself.
Divination is as safe as the questions you ask. If you are consciously connecting to a part of yourself and the energetic system that is good, then your answers will be good.
So, in my opinion, the best readings are the ones that simply come to you naturally, and you just need to simply listen and interpret them well with a good heart. And finally, you need to have the mindset of how to accept and how to integrate it with your life.
2. You Can Only See What You Can Comprehend
“How far can you see into the future?” is the main question for many people who are seeking to know about the future. So basically, you have the ability to see everything until the end of time in theory. But if your ego can’t accept or digest any part of it, then it will not be shown to you.
Your soul (or higher self) already planned all of the lessons that you need to learn in this life. It knows who is going to help you on the way and who you are going to help. It can show you parts of it vaguely, but do you have the stomach to face it and not freak out?
For this reason, you are going to receive divine messages about your future with signs and symbols and dreams with no faces (or you just don’t remember the faces), which are open to interpretation. Interpretation is the key to understanding these readings. That’s why you need to focus on your intuition to realize, but you should not question how something is going to happen, similar to manifestation rules.
3. Be careful with wording
How you word your prediction or prophecy is as important as the interpretation itself. Because even if that divination might be for you only yourself, you need to still be careful of what you are saying to yourself because it can affect your belief in yourself, the world, and the future.
Extra caution is needed when you are telling someone else. My general advice would be to leave comments about decision-making or bad news as vague as possible so the person who receives it can digest it through time because of rule number 5 (The ego needs to live in the present).
Because this new covenant revelatory gift is processed and communicated by us fallibly, we should never use authoritative language like “Thus says the Lord” when sharing what we think may be a prophetic word. Rather, we should say something like, “I think the Lord might be saying . . .” and we allow others to test it for themselves.
But don’t let the fear of enduring the growing process stop you from moving forward. Seek to intentionally increase your faith through prayer, preparation, and practice. I have found it is worth the effort.
4. Destiny is written
“You didn’t come here to make the choice; you’ve already made it. You’re here to try to understand WHY you made it.” The Oracle, Matrix Reloaded 2003
This is one of the most difficult concepts to comprehend for anyone entering divination or any other spiritual activity. When we talk about destiny or fixed destiny brings to argument about free will. And the hardest part is accepting that there is free will and there is destiny at the same time. If you are going to enter the spiritual world, you need to get used to paradoxes sooner or later. The problem is our souls are multidimensional and are able to understand all of these, but our 3D mind, with the capabilities of this physical world, cannot accept it. For this reason, a fight between ego and higherself occurs for the people who enter the field of spirituality.
All of our destiny is written by us (our 5th dimension body) in coordination with God and the world. Since our soul is out of time, it knows everything until the end. If you are connected enough, you will understand why something happens FOR YOU. If you are not connected, your ego will drive you to live more pain either in this life or the next, and your higher self has already planned more lessons and will send you more signs for you to try to connect.
Note: In metaphysical terms, the 5th-dimensional self is the version of you that exists beyond time, already connected to all possibilities.

5. The ego needs to live in the present
“There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.” ― Morpheus, The Matrix 1999
Since most people do not have the stomach to digest the plan for themselves either from their higherself or God, I generally advise the majority of people to stay away from divination or any kind of fortune-telling. Even if they say that they are ready to accept and surrender, my experience with people and even myself showed me that we are not strong enough to accept the life that our soul is written for us, and that is why it just gives pieces of it so we can put them together as signs.
6. Don’t tell if they are involved
One of the lessons that I learned the hard way was telling someone I liked about the future and the signs that I received in relation to her, which caused us to have lots of problems.
So the lesson is do not tell your time readings to the person who is involved in that reading. Since both of your egos have not accepted the time that is going to happen yet, it can create problems. They may think you are messing with them, manipulating them, etc., even if you are genuine with them. Also, they may think they have no choice but to get out of your reading if they believe you, which is not true. So always remember rule 5 (The Ego needs to live in the present).
7. Don’t Test
Don’t try to see some parts of the future and try to prove if they were right or wrong. The reason is obviously because any form of divination or spiritual activity is based on faith, so you would be testing your faith which is not healthy. Also, it will weaken your ability to see further along the way.
Any kind of seeing the future depends on your connection to your higher self, God, or any other higher power, and when you try to test your divination power, you are proving to yourself that your connection is not strong enough to begin with.
Furthermore, don’t let others test you either. Avoid sharing your abilities with anyone who cannot comprehend it. Also, avoid showing off your abilities in public as much as possible unless you have the duty or order from above to do so.
How to See the Future?
1. Connect to your Higherself
Start meditating deeply: Flexing your unconscious muscles is possible through practicing deep meditation, letting your unconscious mind overwhelm your conscious mind, and take over. This is where future telling happens.
Gradually enter and deepen your entranced state: There’s no big secret to meditation. Zazen–the type of meditation done by Zen monastics–is loosely translated as “just sitting.” The goal is nothingness, letting your subconscious mind take over with its extrasensory powers of perception. By learning to do this, you’ll open yourself up to a wider array of signs and portents, making the future more visible.
As your trance deepens, you should gradually start losing your sense of time, quieting your thinking mind and allowing your subconscious to become more perceptive. Some diviners find it effective to visualize climbing or descending a ladder or walking into a cave to symbolize diving deeper into your subconscious and deepening the trance state.
Add meditation into your daily life: As you begin entering your trances and deepening your meditation, stop trying to force things to happen and begin allowing things to happen. Pay attention to images that arise during your meditations, and then seek out these images during the day. Pay attention to faces and people that come up in your meditations, and keep an eye out for them. They may be precognitions.
Use all your senses. It might sound silly, but you can think of your body as a “psychic eye” or something that’s always gathering information. Temperatures, certain smells, and even feelings can all be signs of the future. If you notice feelings of anxiety when you see owls, feelings you’ve never experienced before, take it as significant. If every time you hear Katy Perry sing, you feel coolness, take it as a significant premonition of something.
2. Dream Interpretation
Dream interpretation is the process of assigning meaning to dreams. In many ancient societies, such as those of Egypt and Greece, dreaming was considered a supernatural communication or a means of divine intervention whose message could be interpreted by people with these associated spiritual powers.
Start keeping a dream journal: It can be difficult to analyze your dreams if you can’t remember them. To make it easier on yourself, keep a notebook beside your bed with a pen ready to go every time you go to sleep. As soon as you wake up, write down everything that you were dreaming. Describe it in as specific an amount of detail as possible. Try to do it as soon as you’ve awakened, no matter how tired you are.
- What did you see? Who was there? What did you notice around you in terms of senses like smells, tastes, and textures? How did you connect to it emotionally? Was it a scary dream? A sexy dream? A pleasant dream?
- Write down the dialog first. This tends to be the first thing to go, and it can be frustrating to think that something important might have been communicated and not be able to remember what it was.
Awaken yourself periodically throughout the night: If you struggle to remember your dreams, wake yourself up in the middle of them. Interrupting your dreams is an effective way of recognizing the symbols in them and keeping the images fresh in your mind.
- Set an alarm on your phone to go off every three hours, which will allow you to complete two full REM cycles of 90 minutes each. You can write down your dreams in only a minute or two, meaning that you’ll still be able to get a full night of sleep and will be able to record your dreams.
Locate and assign meaning to the symbols in your dreams. Just as you might with symbols that come up in your meditation, start interrogating the symbols that rise out of your dreams and assigning significance and meaning to them.
- Pick up on lots of different things in each dream. Go back to your image of crabs drinking gasoline on the beach. The crabs and the gasoline seem significant but also consider what drinking might symbolize, what sand might symbolize, and other tactile or emotional elements to the images. How did it feel to watch?
- People are symbols as well. Dreaming that you kissed your best friend doesn’t necessarily “mean” that you’re in love with your best friend and you should start kissing. When we dream of specific people, it is because our subconscious has attached a symbolic meaning to those people. Dreaming of kissing your friend might mean that you’re attracted to a certain element of your friend as a person, something that you want to get closer to or accomplish in your own life.
Connect your dream symbols to your life and to the future: Common dreams, like dreaming that your teeth are falling out, or that you are flying, or that you’re in public with no clothes on, have common interpretations–you’re stressed out, you’re struggling or succeeding with control, you’re vulnerable–but you might make more compelling connections to events or coincidences in your own life. Use dreams along with your well-developed extrasensory perceptions of your life to create your own premonitions and precognitive sense of what the future might hold.
- If you’re waiting to hear the news after a job interview and dream that you’re flying high and out of control, you might take it as a sign that you’re feeling anxiety about the idea of success, of the freedom a new job might bring you. Which might mean you’ve got the job.
- Temper your dream analysis with practicality. If you’ve dreamt that your friend is dead, laid out in a coffin, it doesn’t necessarily mean “my friend is going to die.” Rather, a chapter in your friend’s life might be closing, or your relationship might be changing in some way in the future. Apply it to what’s going on in your life.
Practice lucid dreaming and question the future: Some particularly ambitious and skilled lucid dreamers use waking dreams to attempt to question the future directly. If you’ve practiced and developed the ability to remain conscious while you’re dreaming, Try to visualize a pad of paper or some other oracle and ask it direct questions. “Who’s going to win the Super Bowl?” or “What chance do I have of getting this job?” See what happens.
3. Power of Intuition
Intuition is your inner voice and knowledge within, without the influence of outside sources. People who are said to be “in tune” with their intuition might mean they are good at minimizing distractions and knowing what they want in life.
Intuition is the ability to just *know* things without being told. Many intuitives make excellent Tarot card readers because this skill gives them an advantage when reading cards for a client. This is sometimes referred to as clairsentience. Of all the psychic abilities, intuition may well be the most common.
- Tune in to yourself. Try spending some alone time meditating or going for a walk to drown out the noise.
- Pay attention to your body language. Open body language generally means agreement, while closed body language indicates the opposite.
- Reflect on the past. Think of situations where you listened to your intuition in the past, and when you didn’t. How did you make your decisions?
- Name your emotions. Personifying your emotions can help with clearing your head and revealing your intuitive thoughts.
- Take a personality test like the Big Five Test to understand yourself better.
- Learn about different subjects to train your mind to see different connections.
- Flip a coin to make a tough decision. Before it even lands, you’ll likely “know” the right answer.
- Visualize different outcomes and see which one “feels” right.
4. Reading Signs
Pay attention to symbols and signs: Signs and portents are all around us, but it’s up to us to find them. If you’re lucky enough to have been gifted with some observation skills and extrasensory perceptions, learning to tell the future still takes a lot of work, but you’ll be a better future teller if you work out your extrasensory muscles. If you want to open your perceptions and expand your abilities, stop seeing events and images as “random” and start seeing them as part of a plan.
Pay attention to “hair on the back of the neck” moments. When something happens that pricks the little hairs on the back of your neck, making you feel just slightly “off,” stop what you’re doing and focus. What do you notice? What seems to have startled you? What seems significant?
Pay attention to deja vu. Ever have the feeling something has happened before, and everything feels weird and reverberating? Start paying attention to what seems off about these moments. What do you notice? Where are you? What sense of memories are being evoked?
Pay attention to coincidences. Maybe you wake up some morning and see moths on your porch; then, the cute barista will be wearing a t-shirt with a furry moth across the back. Mere coincidence? To some, there is no such thing–what matters is that it happened. Take coincidences as symbols, signs, and portents rather than unexplainable randomness.
Take note of everything you see: either in dreams or visions during meditation or trance mode, in a notebook with all the details that you can remember. It should involve more than what you saw or heard and include your feelings. Keep in mind that it doesn’t need to make sense in your physical world because sometimes the meanings are much deeper than what you expect. For example, you might see someone as both your friend and mother at the same time in your dream. Take note of that, even if that person is only your friend.
Pay attention to how the signs make you feel first. Have you seen those signs before in your life? Where exactly? What do those signs mean to you?
After taking note of what they mean to you, you can research what they mean generally online. Because some signs may have a meaning to our collective mind as a human species.
Pay attention to those signs during your daily life to see where they come up again.
Analyze the symbols: So, you meditated and couldn’t get the image of a fleet of crabs drinking gasoline on a beach at nighttime out of your mind. Weird! What does this mean? It might mean different things to different people, so learning to interrogate your symbols and subconscious portents and apply them to your own experience will be up to you.
- Think of it like dream interpretation or poetry analysis. These images should give you impressions, so start simple. Does it seem positive or negative? Powerful or weak? Daytime or nighttime?
- Research the individual symbols you find recurring in your life and in your meditations. Crabs, for example, are significant in all kinds of fortune telling, appear on the “Moon” Tarot card, and are part of the Zodiac. A significant vision.
- The Dream Bible can be an excellent resource for quick reading about the symbols that appear in your dreams. It’s a good place to start.
Read up on Greek mythology: If you don’t know your yarrow stick from your elbow, telling the future’s going to be a tough climb. If you’ve got an interest in developing your extrasensory muscles and telling the future, it’s a good idea to do some research on your own and learn about the collective unconscious and the important myths and symbols of your culture.
- The writings of Carl Jung are deeply influential in the way we understand our minds and the connection we have with our subconscious or “unthinking” mind. Joseph Campbell’s The Hero With a Thousand Faces is an excellent resource for finding patterns that recur across cultures and mythologies, suggesting that certain symbols, signs, and portents might be ingrained in us as humans, somehow.
5. Fortune Telling
Some people turn to methods like tarot cards, astrology, palmistry, Pendulums, dowsing, or crystal balls to make predictions about the future. The ones who use general-ready readings from the books or study the patterns basically do some mechanical work. The real power is when you use your soul, for example, to choose the right card in tarot cards. While guides can help in learning the system, the most powerful insights come from direct soul interpretation of the symbols.
Skills take time to perfect, so like with any craft, practice makes perfect.
How do I choose what method to use?
Every system works and has its place – they all carry magic and are fantastic tools you can use to tap into your intuition. Finding a practice that works best for you takes some time but works wonders. Ask yourself this, “is this craft only concerned with the highest good?”, “Does it feel right and at home with me?” and “Does it carry some wisdom that you can learn from”?
The most important thing that you should remember to practice is your intuition and ability to read signs generally, no matter which method you choose.
